140112 East district cross country championship race at Broxburn.

THE final fixture of the East District cross country league was held at Broxburn last Saturday.

It was contested by nine athletes from the Linlithgow area – five from Linlithgow AC and four from Lothian Running Club.

Course conditions were muddy and heavy - typical for the time of year.

Under-11 Harry Pegg of Linlithgow AC was first to run and finished 12th in the 1.5km race in spite of slipping up near the end.

Next up Andrew Fischbacher, also of Linlithgow, who recently ran the Boxing Day Cockleroy chaser finished 22nd in the 4km under 15 boys race.

Lothian athletes Keri Greig and Alice Horsburgh finished 11th and 43rd in the 4km under 15 girls event (16:19 and 22:58 respectively).

In the senior women’s event Sarah Inglis of Avonbridge finished third (21:38) while Jill Horsburgh of Lothian Running Club finished in 66th place in the 6km senior women’s race (28:04).

In the 8.5km senior men’s race Linlithgow AC fielded three runners among a huge field of nearly 250.

The mens’ finishing order was 66th John Redding (32:51), 162th Matt Richardson (39:07), 193th Graeme Lawson (41:39).

The next event in the cross country calendar is the national championships at Callendar park in Falkirk on Saturday, February 18, where the top athletes from across Scotland will be in action.

Linlithgow Athletics Club is Linlithgow’s community athletics and running club, welcoming new members from aged nine to adults of any standard.

If your New Years’ resolution is to run more for fun, fitness or competition, it could be just the right club for you.
