East of Scotland Cup
1st Round
In the early stages, the home side looked as if they might give Bo'ness
a sore one, knocking the ball about and seemingly creating chances at will.
Bo'ness survived to draw the tie but even then they looked to be going out after missing two of their first three penalties in the shoot out. But again, they turned things around to finally win through.
The travelling support could not have known how the tie would unfold after seeing Martin slip the ball past Logan after 55 seconds to give the Hearts a very early lead. Kelty continued to look good and Logan had to make a couple of saves to keep Bo'ness in touch before his colleagues were able to draw breath and get themselves back in the game.
Ross Muir looked danger-ous for Bo'ness though and a great low cross caused some panic in the Kelty defence.
Four minutes later Ross again figured as he was strong in winning the ball before putting Mullen in on goal where his lob beat the advancing Fleming to bring Bo'ness level.
The goal settled Bo'ness and in the next period both sides created chances, illustrated by a Muir volley that clipped the top of the Kelty bar and a Blackadder shot that crashed off the Bo'ness upright.
In 37 minutes Muir cut in from the left to test Fleming with a rasping shot and in 39 minutes he finally got his reward.
Allison received a forward pass 25 yards from goal and, as a Kelty defender challenged for the ball, Muir stepped forward to sweep a sidefoot shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Into the second half and Kelty pinned Bo'ness back in their quest to get an equaliser and in 56 minutes they were successful.
A looping cross came over from the left and McGeorge reacted first to head past Logan with Mullen and Tully looking on.
Kelty were back in the game and they enjoyed some good possession though had to be mindful at the back where Smart headed a Morrison header off the Kelty goal line.
Towards the end of the match the players seemed in two minds whether to go for the winner or settle for penalties and, as it turned out, it was a penalty competition that decided the match.
After scoring with their first kick, Bo'ness failed with their next two to give Kelty the advantage. Logan then saved for Bo'ness and with Lawrie putting over the BU bar it moved to a sudden death ending with Mullen blasting home and Logan saving from Smart to send Bo'ness through.
