LINLITHGOW faced rivals Tayport for the second week in succession looking to build on the previous week's narrow victory at the Canniepairt.
LINLITHGOW ROSE ....................... 2
Grady 43, Webster 74
TAYPORT ........................................ 1

McArthur 48
East of Scotland Cup
1st Round

Rose showed only one change to their sta
rting line-up with Gordon Herd replacing the injured Mike McDermott.

Tayport started well and a nice move saw Craik and Paterson combine to create an opportunity for Elvin who fired over the bar.

Rose worked their way into the game but failed to create any clear-cut chances before being dealt a blow in the 18th minute when they lost the services of Marc Graham.

The big keeper beat Robbie Holden to a through ball but the impact of the collision resulted in him being carried off on a stretcher.

A misplaced defensive header allowed Herd a clear sight of goal but Fitzpatrick saved well to keep the scoreline blank.

Sean Grady, who was lively throughout, stole possession from Juskowiak on the edge of the box but sent his chip just over.

The breakthrough arrived in controversial fashion two minutes from half-time.

Juskowiak went down with a head knock in the penalty box and referee Ross halted play to allow immediate treatment.

Play restarted with a drop ball on the edge of the box which rebounded off the referee and fell to Hogg who released Grady.

He steered his shot past Fitzpatrick to give Rose the lead.

It was almost 2-0 moments later but Fitzpatrick gathered Grady's shot at the second attempt.

Tayport came close to levelling in injury time when their best move of the half ended with McNaughton firing wide.

Three minutes into the second half Rose doubled their advantage.

Grady did well to evade a couple of challenges in midfield before sending the ball wide to Herd who delivered a great cross which McArthur con-verted at the back post.

Rose were caught out by a long through ball that Holden latched onto but his effort struck the post with Pinkowski helpless.

The visitors strung together a flowing move that came to an unfortunate end when O'Connor missed his kick in the box.

Tayport enjoyed a good spell and were unfortunate again when McNaughton found Craik whose 16 yard strike rattled the upright.

The visitors finally got a goal back in the 74th minute when they were awarded a soft free kick that Chris Webster netted from 20 yards.

The pressure oRose was relieved when Sean Grady went off on a tremendous 60 yard run that was only halted when Juskowiak brought him down.

Having already picked up a booking in the first half, the referee had no option but to dismiss the Tayport central defender.

Rose were on top against 10 men and McArthur twice came close.

First he glanced a header wide from a Bradley free kick, then he struck the post from close range.

Tayport were reduced to nine men when Webster stupidly talked himself into trouble twice in two minutes.

First he got himself riled by an exchange with the home support then he went berzerk, claiming a free-kick that never was.

The visitors' indiscipline continued when Barry Mc-Naughton picked up a straight red card in injury time to reduce his team to eight men.

Three other Tay-port players also picked up yellow cards in a crazy last few minutes as the referee struggled to keep control.

Credit is due to the Rose for keeping their heads and recording a good victory.

Rose: Graham (Pinkowski 18 mins), Robertson, Waugh, Gallacher, Wilson, Bradley, Tyrell, Hogg, McArthur, Grady, Herd (James 76 mins) Subs not used: King, Livingstone, Geddes.
