Youth project takes God to the streets

THE church in Kirkliston is hoping to reach out to the local child and youth population.

Kirkliston Parish Church's youth fellowship has recently

purchased a van and modified it to become at Christian Action Bus (CAB) where youngsters can meet.

The van, which can accommodate up to eight people, is fitted out with seating to allow youngsters the opportunity to take part in activities such as scripture reading, listening to music or just talking to church leaders.

Christina Pearson, CAB project leader, said: ''For a long time we have felt that there is a great need to take Christ's teaching out to as many young people as possible.

''In this age we find that young people are looking for something and we feel we can now provide it."

Christina added that, initially, the CAB will go out twice weekly in the evenings for two hour sessions, stopping off at various locations in the village to allow children and youths access.

Their aim is for the CAB to travel further afield and take in Queensferry too.

Kirkliston Parish Church and its board approved the project and funded the purchase of the van while CAB project leaders raised additional money to insure, tax and kit it out.

Christina added: ''Church buildings can sometimes be a barrier for children, particularly young teenagers, so we feel a need to work around this obstacle. Our aim is to create a zone that will move from place to place taking God's word to as many children and youths as possible in and around our parish and beyond."
