Bo’ness-based Pebbles jewellers has been honoured by its customers and those in the business by being named one of the UK’s Inspiring Independent Jewellery Retailers.

The recognition, bestowed by trade bible The Retail Jeweller, has been given to just five Scottish firms after a public and industry vote.

Pebbles opened its Hope Street doors in autumn 2005, and later branched out to Edinburgh’s Jeffrey Street.

It’s a family affair in Bo’ness, run by Val (pictured above) and Kevin Trotter, with daughter Danielle assisting with the website and social media.

Pebbles combines exclusive ranges from both established and up-and-coming designers with excellent customer service, and Val said they were thrilled at the recognition.

Asked the key to being an inspiring independent, she said: “I think it’s really not being too mainstream. Both of our shops have stayed clear of big brands because we’ve found our customers come to us because they want something unique they won’t see everyone else wearing.”

She added: “Being independent allows us to adapt to the market and our customers much quicker, being proactive in selecting what we know our customers want and not being chosen by a head office for two seasons ahead.”
