Peel calls foul on dogs
080212 Linlithgow palce gates at market lane car park closed to the public.
PERSISTENT and unacceptable levels of dog fouling have meant the Market Lane entrance to the Peel has been locked for the whole of February.
A spokesman for Historic Scotland said: “The closure of the gates at the Rose Garden is a temporary measure designed to address the growing issue of dog fouling in this area of the Peel. We are sorry that a minority have spoilt it for the majority of Peel users, and hope to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
A West Lothian Council spokesman added: “Anyone responsible for a dog has a clear duty to clear up after it in any public open space and it is an offence not to immediately remove and dispose any fouling appropriately. Those who fail to do so are committing a crime and being anti-social. They could also be putting people’s health at risk as dog faeces can also contain toxicara, a serious infection that can cause blindness and liver disorder in humans.”
The council’s environmental wardens carry out patrols on Historic Scotland property and issue fixed penalty notices from £40 upwards. To report a dog fouling issue, contact the customer service centre on 01506 775000.
