A NEW inspector has arrived in Linlithgow ready to take on the challenges of the royal burgh and the surrounding areas.

Liz Macleod (41) is the new community inspector based at Court Square after years in the Northern Constabulary. Originally from Dingwall, Liz first joined the force at 19.

She said: “I started in Inverness and had various roles in uniform as I worked my way up the ranks. I was promoted to sergeant when I worked in Alness and became inspector when I went to Thurso in 2005. I moved to Caithness and in 2009 went to Inverness, before I joined Lothian and Borders in June 2010 as a shift inspector for West Lothian.”

Liz has now joined the Linlithgow team and is also responsible for Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh, and she added: “It’s a good team, and they all want to do the job they’re doing - creating well being in the community.”

After 22 years in the police, Liz has returned to Edinburgh where her mother is from, but husband Alasdair (42) is still based in Inverness with the Northern Constabulary at present.

As to tackling community issues, Liz said: “We want to get a handle on anti social behaviour. But we don’t work on our own - people need to tell us what’s going on. We are all trying to make the place safer.”

For Linlithgow the stats look good. From April to December 2011, the detection rate improved by 12 per cent on the previous year and last December only 17 crimes were recorded locally. But as Liz emphasised, being a low crime area does not mean anything is too small to be brought to the attention of the police.
