Bee disease hits West Lothian

AN outbreak of American Foulbrood, a disease that kills Honey Bee larva, has been discovered in West Lothian.

The disease was discovered in an apiary near Philpstoun by a Scottish Government Inspector.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Government said: "One hive has been confirmed as infected with AFB to date.

"We know of at least another dozen apiaries in the area and Scottish Government bee inspectors are concentrating their investigations in the 5km surveillance zone."
