£1million Bo'ness investment planned
EMPTY Bo'ness council flats could undergo a £1million overhaul with planning permission sought to do up 28 properties at Corbiehall.
Falkirk Council has applied to renovate and refurbish numbers 43-51 (odd numbers), known locally as the 'coffin blocks', and carry out related landscape works.
The 1930s listed two-bedroom properties, designed by prominent Bo'ness architect Matthew Steele, had been earmarked for transfer from the council to foreshore developers ING under a development agreement.
ING secured planning consent for a revamp in September 2008 but following the housing market downturn, Falkirk Council, which retained ownership of the flats, is now looking to do the work and return them to the social housing letting pool. Funds are available within this year's capital programme, and with consultation now underway, the plans could go before councillors next month.
