Callum Scott, 31, who has three previous convictions for similar crimes, pushed over the Yamaha Fazer motorcycle and piled rubbish from a bin on top of it before setting it alight.

As the motorcycle's horrified owner looked out from a nearby bedroom window, Scott made further trips to the nearby bin and added more rubbish to the flames, Stirling Sheriff Court was told.

He began to make off when he realised police had arrived, but was arrested.

He told officers, "I want to speak to a lawyer."

At Stirling Sheriff Court, unemployed Scott, of Dalgrain Road, Grangemouth, pleaded guilty to wilful fireraising.

The incident happened about 1.30 am on April 13 2022 in Grangemouth's La Porte Precinct.

Solicitor Gordon Addison, defending, said Scott was a stranger to the owner of the motorcycle.

The lawyer said: "I don't know if that makes it better or worse. It was not a vindictive act, it was a wanton act."

Sheriff Derek Hamilton jailed Scott for 24 months.

He said: "There is no alternative to a custodial sentence."
