A inmate wrapped a illegal item inside a town and hid it near some heating pipes in Polmont Young Offenders Institution.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Courtney McCreadie, 27, had admitted possessing the unauthorised SIM card at Polmont Young Offenders Institution on February 21 last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Mandy Jones said: “The accused was serving a four-month sentence at the time. A search was carried out of her cell and a SIM card was found along with a prison issue phone.

The court heard McCreadie was not able to contact her family “as often as she would like” at the time.

Sheriff Alison Michie noted McCreadie, 37 Tinto Crescent, Wishaw, was no stranger to custody, but she had made progess since her last period of imprisonment.

She placed her on a community payback order with the condition she complete 225 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
