OUR thanks go to Laurie Alexander, former pupil at Linlithgow Primary School, and now a family history buff, for submitting this picture of his classmates around 1946.
He says they look none the worse for the austerity of the war years. Laurie thinks the teacher is a Miss Forrest, but can place the names of most of the children.

Back row, from left: Edward Ward, Joe McMeechan, Robert Oliver, Willie Cunningham, Billy Old, Ian Wallace, Teddy McCabe, Hamilton Mackie, John Sanderson. Middle row: Alistair Scott, Blair Connor, Eric Millar, Jean Duncan, Jean Ketchen, Mary Paterson, Laurie Alexander, Bryan Kidd, David Turnbull. Front: Janette King, Annette Elliot, Margaret Lawrie, Evelyn (?) Sneddon, Barbara Brown, Elizabeth Arthur, Mar-lyn Wood, (?), Rachel Kennedy, Margaret Cunningham, Martha Hunter, Julie Gilmour, Mary (?) Bell, Janette Sneddon.

*A Bo'ness housewife (45) who, on December 17, helped herself to 12 ounces of bacon and four ounces of tea in the grocery department at the Newtown Cooperative Society without paying, was fined £2 in Linlithgow.
*A man in Prestonpans read of Bo'ness Public School's desire to own an old car for the senior pupils to tinker with after school hours, and has donated a 1934 family model he had intended selling for scrap.
*The supper of the Lea Rig Burns Club took place in the Lea Rig Hall, Winchburgh on Saturday. Alexander Aitken of Leith Academy gave the Immortal Memory.
*When the crew of a Glasgow-Fife train changed over in the railway siding at Boghall, Linlithgow on September 8, four men crept in and stole 15 cartons of cigarettes. However they were surrounded by police who had been alerted to the raid.
*An inept display of forward play by Bathgate Thistle at Creamery Park gave the home fans something to grouse about when they entertained Linlithgow Rose in the Edinburgh and District League. Rose maintained championship form, running out 4-1 winners.

*Traders are incensed by a promotional leaflet circulating Britain that depicts Linlithgow as a town with "poor" shopping facilities. Circulated by Edinburgh-based chartered surveyors, its purpose was to attract shops to Linlithgow's £2 million Regent Centre.
*The biggest planning proposal for South Queensferry since the Forth Road Bridge will finally be decided next week with a public inquiry. Walco Developments (Edinburgh) Ltd hope to build a giant superstore, indoor bowling arena and garden centre on a 28-acre site at Ferrymuir.
*A group of locals and the Abbeyfield Society have combined to take over Ashley Hall to transform it into a home for elderly people. Work should begin in April on the mansion house near the West Port.
*A picture of deteriorating bus services in Lothian, sharply contrasting with the present streamlined networks, has been drawn by Lothian Regional councillors illustrating what could happen if Government plans for re-organisation of bus services go ahead.
*In basketball on Tuesday, the Bo'ness Wildcats faced Holyrood HS in a repeat of last year's final which Bo'ness lost. But the Academy won 55-41 in the quarter-final tie.
