More than 40 passengers on the Forth ferry, 'Mary Queen of Scots', had to be ferried ashore on Wednesday night when the vessel was blown onto rocks at the South Queensferry pier.

James Todd complained at the education committee this week that the school patrol had been supplied with a uniform but for two years had never received the cap he is meant to wear despite repeated requests.

For his part in a raid on a hen house on December 23 and 24, when 11 hens were stolen, a 36-year-old man was jailed for 30 days at Linlithgow Sheriff Court.

The Reverend G. Elliot Anderson of Linlithgow objected to a proposal that the council grant £500 for the renovation of an East Whitburn hall on the grounds that 'Housey Housey' was played there. It was decided the grant would only be given if there was no gambling in the hall.

Linlithgow Rose face what could be one of their toughest games of the season at Creamery Park this weekend where they face Bathgate Thistle in a League fixture – but frozen pitches might force the cancellation of the match.

History will repeat itself in Linlithgow with the re-enactment of Cromwell's forces taking the Palace. The 17th century spectacle is being staged by the Civil War Society during the week-long Linlithgow Link Festival in September.

Bo'ness is to receive £500,000 to improve one of its areas. Falkirk District Council has identified Grangepans as one of seven district areas to get money under the Neighbourhood Development scheme.

Peter Wright is now the proud owner of Niddry Castle – the 16th century ruin near Winchburgh. It was built in 1510 as a home for the Seton family but is now abandoned. Peter hopes to turn it into a family home.

Bo'ness is to have its own centre for unemployed people set up by Bo'ness Enterprise Schemes, which is on the hunt for those without jobs and skilled workers and will provide them with information on their rights.

The big freeze looks poised to continue this week, wrecking junior football fixtures. Linlithgow Rose and Bo'ness United have been waiting three weeks to play their third round Scottish Junior Cup ties against Darvel and Benburb respectively.
