HELP is needed from our readers this week to shed light on the story behind this old photograph.
The original image came from the granny's house of a Bo'ness lady, who wishes to remain anonymous. Our contributor doesn't know when or where exactly it was taken, nor whom it shows, but thinks it has a Bo'ness connection.

Pictured are a group of smartly-turned out men of varying ages, the majority of whom have rifles.

They appear to be standing and sitting on long grass or straw, possibly suggesting a farm or country estate.

If you can offer any suggestions, contact us on 01506 844 592 and we'll put you in contact with the contributor.

Send any old photos you think would appeal to our readers, with details, to our office at 114 High Street, Linlithgow, EH49 7AQ.

*Ladies from Queensferry are up in arms about the splashing their dresses are getting by motors passing through the town. The worst hit areas are Hopetoun Road, the Cooperative store and in front of the police station.

*For transporting a ship's propeller which overhung the sides of the lorry by 2ft 7" along the public highway and for not giving police due notice, a driver was fined 20s at Linlithgow's JP court on Friday.

*Only a few weeks ago, Bo'ness Academy acquired a new history and geography master but he is leaving at Christmas as he cannot find a home. Albert Nicol came from the Nicolson Institute, Stornoway and said that in Lewis he could have got a house and a croft for the same price as a house in Bo'ness.

*Among the guests at the Bo'ness Rebels Literary Club St Andrew's night ceilidh held in the Town Hall were several of the best known of modern Scottish poets - the "Makars" who took their turn at entertaining along with the others.

*After a fiery BU display last week, the start of the new League Cup series at Newtown on Saturday was a bit of an anti-climax. It was a bread and butter game but BU still beat Camelon Juniors 3-2.

*Linlithgow town clerk George Brown quit his £2500+ post at Tuesday's meeting of Linlithgow Town Council in favour of a similar position with Bathgate Town Council.

*Three OAPs staying on St John's Avenue are being plagued almost nightly by a mysterious nocturnal prowler. Every week for the past five years, they have heard a man knocking on doors and windows and three weeks ago he began to leave lewd graffiti.

*Eight-year-old musical whizz kid from Linlithgow, Malcolm Dougall of St Ninian's Road, was a weekend guest at the famous London Palladium. It was his prize for winning the Grangemouth Talent competition.

*The new £23,000 Linlithgow Branch library was formally opened by councillor Mrs M Tierney. It is part of the first phase of central redevelopment for the town and only 30 yards from the extensive new car park.

*Despite his early season scoring exploits, Colin Sinclair has found himself in and out of the Raith Rovers team. He said it was quite a change jumping from junior grade to senior grade just as it was stepping up to the Rose from juvenile circles.

*Scotland's junior bosses unanimously agreed not to suspend four Linlithgow Rose players Tommy Reston, Eric Black, John Grant and Alex Gardner after they refused to appear at a match following a complaint over a Junior Cup bonus.
