These triumphant musicians are members of the Bo'ness and Carriden Band Quartet from the 1960s.
They picked up the trophy in the 1967 Scottish Quartet Championships.

The winning margin was six points, a record at the time. The contest was held in Bellahouston, Glasgow with Dr Drake Rimmer adjudicating.

The winning brass players are, from left, Jim Anderson, the late Joseph Hemptead, Willie Rodger and the late Gus Mitchell.

50 years ago

* A charity dress show was held this week in Bo'ness. More than 500 ladies attended the Mannequin Parade organised by the Bo'ness Townswomen's Guild. Raincoats, fur coats and dresses were among clothes modelled at the show.

* James Snedden was made a life member of the Brass Band Association this week. He was recognised by the S.A.B.A after completing 50 years of service with the Bo'ness and Carriden Brass Band.

* Schoolboys from Bo'ness and Linlithgow Academies were among the 1000 boys to receive invitations to the Royal Navy at H.M.S Caledonia, the apprentice training establishment at Rosyth.

* Linlithgow golf course at Braehead, which had been threatened with closure, was saved by a Mrs MacKinnon of The Craigs after she purchased the land on which the course was situated and gave the Linlithgow golf club a lease for 10 years.

* Linlithgow Rose enhanced their reputation this week as they defeated Pumpherston Juniors by the only goal of the match.

25 years ago

* Bo'ness teenager Karen Smith won a scholarship from an engineering company. She was entitled to £500 every year to see her through university.

* A new scheme was set up to find Winchburgh's top neighbour. The community council wants locals to nominate a villager who they believe deserves to win the trophy.

* A row broke out this week over the ownership of a dead tree at the side of Linlithgow Loch. The 60-70ft willow's branches extended over the path around the loch. There was confusion over who owned the tree – either a Mr and Mrs Ramsey or the Secretary of State. A notice was erected that stated: "Danger - dead tree - take care."

*Bo'ness schoolgirl Elaine Willis gained the highest award in Scotland for her talent in church music. She was a member of the Carriden Parish Church Choir and was presented with her award during morning service.

* The committee of the Stirlingshire and Midlands Counties Table Tennis Association aim to encourage players of "ping-pong" standard to form a Novice Fun League for the association.
