AS ONE Queen celebrates a diamond jubilee another is hoping for an equally sparkling year as Linlithgow and Linlithgow Bridge Gala Queen 2012.

Last week, the Gala Queen Elect chosen was Fiona Tuckett (11) from Linlithgow Bridge Primary, and she couldn’t be more excited to be chosen. In an amazing stroke of luck her friend Karen McCallum (11), from the same school, was also chosen to be Chief Lady in Waiting for the big day on Saturday, June 23.

It is only the second time a Queen has been chosen from Linlithgow Bridge Primary and for headteacher Ann Corr who is retiring this year it will be especially memorable.

She said: “I am absolutely over the moon. I am delighted for both of them and they are good friends and very excited - they were at my door waiting to tell me about it after the draw! We have now had the Gala Queen for two years running, and it’s my last year here so it’s very special.”

Fiona is already starting to plan for the day with dress shopping planned over the next few weeks. She said: “I’m very excited - I think it’s 10 out of 10.

‘’Karen and I both wanted to be Queen but we are really happy to both be placed and the chief lady is really important.

‘‘I’m thinking of a medieval theme with a big castle for my arch and I’ll need to try and remember my speech but I’m looking forward to it.”

Fiona is a keen footballer and enjoys playing in defence at Linlithgow Rose Community Football Club, as well as being a big fan of netball, drawing and gymnastics with friends.

Fiona’s family, dad Andy (49), mum Mary (47), brother Steven (26) and sister Catherine (15), now have a few months to get ready for one of the biggest days in Linlithgow’s calendar.

Mary said: “She is really pleased and after the draw she was phoning all the family.

‘‘Her granny from Devon is going to come up for it - they don’t have anything like that down there.”

nRetinue details will follow next week.
