New sport makes a racket in Bo’ness
100111 launch of the great big racketball challenge at boness recreation centre.
THE Great Big Racketball Challenge for Mary’s Meals 2011 was launched locally by Cathy Peattie MSP and schoolchildren at Bo’ness Recreation Centre.
Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd is encouraging schools, clubs, sports centres and offices to take up racketball and fundraise for the charity.
The four most creative sponsorship schemes will win £400 worth of Dunlop sports equipment, donated by the SSR’s sponsor.
Racketball is the UK’s fastest-growing racquet sport, played on a squash court with a large racquet and a rubber ball about twice the size of a squash ball.
Ron Pearman, SSR chairman, said: “To give that little bit more motivation to get involved, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd want everyone to take part in the Great Big Racketball Challenge for Mary’s Meals 2011 by creating their own racketball charity challenges to raise as much money as they can for Mary’s Meals - one of Scotland’s leading charities that currently feeds over 400,000 children in over 15 countries every day.”
Cathy Peattie, Falkirk East MSP, said racketball was enjoyable and exciting, and, with a number of excellent courts locally, there was no excuse not to try it.
“With the added incentive of supporting Mary’s Meals I can’t think of a better time to get active and try something new,” she said.
Anyone wishing to compete for the equipment prizes should send a summary of their scheme to info@scottishsquash.org before March 15. The prizes will be awarded on creativity, funds raised and the participation generated.
