Monitoring cash success for charities

KEEPING track of noise levels in and around Queensferry has led to a number of schools, groups and charities receiving a cash boost.
The Forth Crossing Bridges Constructors (FCBC), the team which is building the new Forth Crossing, has a contractual right have to monitor its environmental performance and this led to a search for residents on either side of the Forth to act as hosts for the technical monitoring instruments involved.
The equipment, which is placed in gardens, accurately measures the levels of dust, noise and vibration in relation to the ongoing construction work. Those who took part as hosts have since been given £500 each to donate to a good local cause.
Among the local recipients were Queensferry Churches Care in the Community, St Margaret’s Primary School, the RNLI, Queensferry First Responders and Dalmeny Primary School.
Carlo Germani, FCBC’s project director said: “We are here for five years and our work will have a big impact on the community. We want that impact to be as positive as possible at all times. This is a great way to say thank you to the whole community and reward the neighbourliness of those people who have been kind enough to accommodate our monitoring equipment on behalf of the community.”
Three Queensferry residents involved nominated the local RNLI which received £1500 in total. The donors were Douglas Ross from Linn Mill, Mike Baynham from Society and Adam Cruttenden, manager at Port Edgar Marina and Sailing School.
Arup, consulting engineers involved in the new bridge project, also gave £500 to Queensferry First Responders.
