Take a trip down memory lane in Bo'ness, Linlithgow and South Queensferry
ON land that is now covered with cottages, the Lochmill Paper Mill in Linlithgow Bridge brings back many happy memories for locals.
This is a picture of the mill just before it was knocked down, after closing its doors in 1984. It was submitted by local lady Heather Gray, who was keen to know more about it.
Local historian Murdoch Kennedy remembers working there during his school and university summer holidays, as his father was there for over 30 years.
Looking back in history, at a special ceremony on Saturday December 5, 1908, Colonel Charles Chalmers of Longcroft, who owned the Lochmill Paper Mill, was the man who presented the Chalmers Hall and adjoining rooms for the use of the inhabitants of Linlithgow Bridge, still in use today.
50 years ago
Monday was a big day for Guiseppe Cassettari (76) of 40 Deanfield Drive, Bo'ness when his brother Angelo (78) arrived at Prestwick Airport. They were seeing each other for the first time since 1896, the year Guiseppe came to Scotland from Italy as a boy of 12.
The buses at Corbiehall were on strike on Monday but car owners rallied round when they saw the queues of workers. Four workmen pushed a pre-war car along the road which shot into life and the men piled in.
After nearly 50 years in Linlithgow, the Cross Keys Inn at 243 High Street is closing. Lease holder Patrick Grady sold it this year to Scottish Oils and Shell-Mex Ltd who want to build a filling station and garage.
Linlithgow Rose brought their four games' losing run to an end on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Camelon Juniors, delighting the coach and the fans.
Continuing their all-conquering run, Bo'ness United collected another two League on Saturday when they defeated Bathgate Thistle by 3-1.
25 years ago
Bridgend Primary has been praised in an HMI report. In particular, pupils and staff were praised for their use of computers, with credit given to headteacher Miss Ray Rutherford. The school has 86 pupils.
Bo'ness Round Table's annual garden fete attracted almost 4000 people on Saturday. Tablers believe the total exceeds last year. Opened by Fair Queen Lynette Murray, around 25 organisations set up stalls with an emphasis on entertaining children.
Linlithgow Rugby Club is appealing to Linlithgow Community Council for more pitches. It has only one pitch to cope with its six teams.
Council house tenants are furious after vital repairs to roofs in Gateside, Kirkliston, were carried out on the wrong houses. An emergency meeting of all tenants has been organised.
Bo'ness boss Allen Bryce this week slammed the Arniston "bad boys" who turned Saturday's league fixture into a rough-house. Despite their keeper being sent off, Bo'ness still finished 3-0.
