Take a trip down memory lane in Bo'ness, Linlithgow and South Queensferry

A FUN friends outing from Bo'ness to Blackpool brings back many happy memories in this picture handed in by Anna Gibb, of Howieson Avenue, Bo'ness.

It features her sister Una Graham (nee Kelly), second from the right, who celebrates her 70th birthday today (Friday).

Also in the picture are left to right Liz Dewar, Janice (Napier) Mills,

Rae Green, Jessie Pow and Mima (Hamilton) Paterson.

50 years ago

Journal and Gazette photographer Bill Miller took to the skies above West Lothian to take a full page photo showing Bo'ness town centre from the air.

A new playground is to be built between the new houses at Main Street and Mill Road in Linlithgow Bridge. There will be swings and a roundabout.

A house in Dean Road, Bo'ness, was broken into and 4 nicked. The thief used the house key which was left lying on the scullery window ledge.

Bo'ness library has a new series of books to lend out, including Neville Shute's Trustee from the Toolroom, Epitaph for a Blonde, by I Merces and the latest Ellery Queen, Choice.

Independents triumphed in the local elections in Bo'ness this week, with three of the four seats being won from sitting Labour councillors.

Linlithgow Rose paid the price for poor finishing when Musselburgh beat them 3-1, to win a place in the cup final. Bo'ness United suffered a similar league shock when lowly Alva beat them two goals to one, their fourth league defeat in a row.

25 years ago

Planned upgrading of Linlithgow Train Station has caused an uproar after British Rail said it didn't have the cash to include facilities for disabled passengers. There will be no lift installed.

Queensferry kids who travel to the soon-to-be closed Our Lady's High School in Broxburn will now have to go to St Augustine's in Edinburgh – but the council won't provide them with a school bus. Instead kids from 11 years old will make their own way by train.

''Late night rowdies'' on Linlithgow High Street are being targeted, with a take-away restaurant being told it must close its doors earlier. Other licensed premises have had their hours cut back.

The first stage in the erection of Bo'ness Town Clock went ahead this week when a crane put up the casting to make way for the clock face. They now need to wait for the SSEB to run a mains supply to the clock.

Brilliant Blaikie - goal-scoring machine David Blaikie triumphed for the Rose again, in a 2-1 win over Bonnyrigg in the cup semis. And that made it a local double, as Bo'ness also powered into the final with a magnificent penalty clincher.
