Take a trip down memory lane
THIS 1954 photo shows Kinneil Colliery bandsmen at Bo'ness United's football ground.
Pictured (L-R) are Robert Grant, Duncan Nicholson, Marshall Campbell and Alexander Fleming. When they first joined Kinneil Military Band as it was then known, Robert and Alexander played the clarinet, Marshall the French horn and Duncan the cornet. In 1953 Kinneil Band changed to all brass and these bandsmen decided to play these big basses. Success came the way of the Kinneil Colliery Band with them winning the fourth section Scottish Amateur Band Association, conducted by John Kirkwood. The photo was kindly submitted by Matthew Deans, himself a former cornet player with the band. UNISON Kinneil Band perform their annual concert next Friday, April 16, at Bo'ness Town Hall, starting at 7.30pm.
