*It was a historic day for Linlithgow last Sunday as HRH The Princess Royal accepted the Freedom of the Burgh, on behalf of The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) of which she is Colonel-in-Chief. A crowd was on the Peel to view the ceremony.

*A large, happy crowd gathered at Recreation Park on Saturday for Winchburgh Gala Day. It was sunny but more children could have been involved in the procession that was followed by a fun sports programme.

*Policemen at Linlithgow recovered a 500 cc Triumph motorcycle from the Loch near Whitten Lane on Wednesday morning. Enquiries are continuing as to how the motorcycle came to be there.

*A Bo'ness bus of 30 ladies and five children collided with a United Services bus on the Jedburgh-Newcastle road on Saturday evening, en route home from Whitley Bay. There were bad injuries.

*Armadale Thistle won full points after a grim struggle with the Rose in which neither team enhanced its reputation. Thistle showed more originality in attack but it was a close fought match ending 2-1 to the Thistle.

*A major new jobs boost for South Queensferry could be just around the corner as two local authorities have been making plans to take over the former whisky bottling and blending plant owned by William Sanderson and Sons, a subsidiary of Distillers Company Ltd.
